RED QUILT AND SAMPLER

Today I will show you my red quilt (the one for our TV-room). It is hand-sewed (apart from the borders) and hand-quilted. I got the model from an "Australian Patchwork and Quilting" magazine. It is a scrap quilt and my motto for scrap quilts being "if no ugly fabrics then no interesting", there are some very ugly fabrics in it. Some bed linen and some aprons from my MIL made their way into this quilt as well. The border is a home dyed damask table cloth a friend gave me.

The sampler blocks are for my actual patchwork course. They are 12" x 12"( which I think is huge !).Some are machine-appliquéed. They will each get a narrow frame of blue fabric and be quilted-as-you-go.

I wish you all a nice week-end. Here it seems that winter has come back so it will be a cosy time with some hand-quilting!

Wonderful ! I love this pattern and I know it. I love thesered tones. Scrappy is the best ! The curve seams seem difficult, no ?

I just love 'two' color quilts, even when they are not exactly two colors. The scrappy reds are great, nice job!

All friends say, that I never sleep, because there is so much patchwork in my live... but I think I´ve found a coequal quilt-sister. Are you also a night patcher???

Great quilt and blocks! I am getting addicted to the quilt as you go technique!

Gwen, this looks wonderful. Scrappy and two color for a very classic look. Was the handsewing by choice or because the curves would have been a hassle to do on the machine?

The sampler blocks below are very pretty too.

What a beautiful quilt! I admire your piecing ability in making all those curved seams too!

Your red quilt is amazing! I"ve been working on a similar quilt for ages now, but I loose interest and put it away, I have to get it back out again!

I'm with you - I forget which nationally known quilter gave us this saying "You have to have some uglies in order to make the pretties stand out". I'm in complete agreement. Almost to the point that I don't think there's such a thing as a truly ugly fabric. As our Bonnie says - if it's still ugly you've just not cut it small enough.

I certainly can see no ugly fabrics in this quilt! Very very nice!

Isn't it amazing how "ugly" fabrics can combine with others to create something so beautiful? Although, honestly, I think those "uglies" give a scrap quilt character. It's only when they try to take center stage that there are problems!

I am giggling about the idea of a 12x12" block being "huge". Not because it isn't -- but because I tend to work big and think that working with anything smaller than 8" blocks is "tiny". I think I need to readjust my size "scale".

If I were in your TV room I only would have my eyes on your beautiful quilts and not at the TV;-)
It would be interesting to see your quilt as you go technique on your blog some day;-)

I love it!!!! I love the colors and it's "scrappity". I've seen this quilt on Bea's blog before - and immediately had to put in on my to-do-list!

The scrappy Winding Ways is a masterpiece in color study. I agree that throwing in some 'uglies' really perks up the interest level. The sampler blocks are gorgeous... I adore the tulips in the corners and then again in the pitcher in the center! Great job!!

Ghasp! I love your blue and beige blocks! The colour combination is fabulous! It will make into a wonderful quilt. And I agree with you; 12" square blocks are huge! I always feel a bit intimidated by the size...

The red quilt is great to! Hope you had a good weekend, and wishing you a wonderful week!

Just found you -- what a clever gal you are! I especially LOVE that 'ugly fabric' in your red quilt. It's just gorgeous!

And that blue sampler start? Very pretty. I'll be back to see what develops from that project.

Oh, I just love your red quilt and you hand quilting is gorgeous! What thread are you using for hand quilting?

You will have to show us progress of your quilt-as-you-go sampler. I've been wanting to do another one but using the newer method with the 1" sashing strips like you will be doing.

Thanks for stopping by my blog and leaving your lovely comments!
